Making “Loose” Tea *Need Some Help*?

Hi,

I recently got some very nice tea, but, the tea itself is not in separate bags. I do not think we have a tea-pot, and I just want to make two cups of it. Is there any simple way to make it? I usually with bags just put a glass of water in the microwave for 3 to 3.5 minutes, then steeped the tea bag in the water, took it out, and then threw it away. Any suggestions?

Thanks!

In order to brew it correctly you will need a mesh tea ball. You basically place the loose leaf tea inside the ball, close it and drop it into the hot water to steep, then remove when done.

Since you do not have a mesh tea ball, I would recommend adding the loose leaf tea to the hot water, steep, then strain through a fine mesh strainer before serving. Otherwise you will end up with lots of loose leaves in your tea and they can be bitter when they reach your palate.

Place loose tea leaves into a warmed tea kettle. Pour heated water over loose tea leaves. Let steep. Strain tea and serve.

*Note: For Oolong and Green tea, water should simmer at 200 degrees F. and 180 degrees F.

*For Irish and English tea bring water to a full boil.

*Black tea should soak for 3 to 5 minutes. Oolong tea should soak for 4 to 7 minutes. Green Tea should soak for 2 to 3 minutes.

(I have tried this and it works, it is the perfect cup of green tea!)
